California Acupuncture License Renewal Guidelines

Total Hours Required:

  • 50 hours of board-approved continuing education courses.
  • Including a minimum of four (4) hours of CE in law and ethics.

Course Type Limits:

  • Category 1:
  • Up to 50% (25 hours) can be completed through distance education (online courses, correspondence courses, etc.).
  • 25 hours must me live classes either in person or via real-time online courses.
  • Core courses directly related to acupuncture practice, including clinical techniques, relevant Western medicine, medical ethics, and acupuncture practice management.
  • Category 2:
  • No more than 5 hours (even if the course offers more credit).
  • Includes CPR, business, and professional enhancement courses that do not directly relate to acupuncture practice and techniques.

Record Keeping:

• Retain records of all continuing education courses attended for at least 4 years.

Compliance Statement:

  • List all 50 hours on your renewal application.
