In Illinois, licensed acupuncturists are required to renew their licenses biennially, with the renewal deadline on June 30 of odd-numbered years. As part of the renewal process, practitioners must complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) relevant to the practice of acupuncture during each two-year period.

Continuing Education Requirements:

  • Total Hours: 30 CE hours every two years.

  • In-Person Instruction: A minimum of 7 hours must be obtained through in-person courses or training.

  • Online or Self-Study: Up to 23 hours can be completed through online, correspondence, audio, or video courses provided by an approved sponsor. Each self-study course must include an examination that the licensee must pass to obtain credit.
