Kentucky License Renewal Rules

In Kentucky, licensed acupuncturists are required to renew their licenses every two years. As part of the renewal process, practitioners must complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) within each biennial period. These CE courses must be in acupuncture or Oriental medicine subjects, including but not limited to anatomy, biological sciences, adjunctive therapies, sanitation and sterilization, emergency protocols, and diseases.

Continuing Education Requirements:

  • Total Hours: 30 hours of approved CE every two years.

  • Course Content: CE courses must cover topics pertinent to acupuncture and Oriental medicine, such as anatomy, biological sciences, adjunctive therapies, sanitation and sterilization, emergency protocols, and diseases.

  • Approved Providers: All national and state acupuncture and Oriental medicine organizations, as well as acupuncture and Oriental medicine schools, are approved to provide continuing professional education.

Record-Keeping and Audits:

Licensees must retain records of all completed CE courses to prove compliance with the continuing education requirements.

Inactive License Status:

Practitioners not actively practicing in Kentucky can apply for inactive status. While on inactive status, licensees are exempt from CE requirements but must still pay the biennial renewal fee. To reactivate an inactive license, the practitioner must complete the required CE hours and submit an application to restore active status.
